Less than a day after scoring for Adelaide United in the Australia Cup, Reds stalwart Stefan Mauk has departed for a loan move to a Vietnamese club.

See subscription optionsThe Reds confirmed Mauk had flown out immediately after netting in the Reds' 2-1 loss to the Newcastle Jets.
Amid a turbulent off-season at Adelaide, Mauk requested to explore the opportunity away from the club.
He is contracted until the end of the 2026-27 campaign but his loan move until the end of the upcoming season has an option to buy, with Adelaide receiving a fee for the midfielder.
"This opportunity for me and my family was too good to turn down," Mauk said in a statement.
"I'm excited for this new challenge but I'm sad to be leaving.
"I felt like this was the best move for my career.
"I was always so proud to wear the Adelaide United shirt. I grew up watching this club, and it will always be my club."
Adelaide local Mauk, 29, has played for the Reds across three stints including winning the premiership-championship double in 2015-16.
"Stefan has given so much to this football club both on and off the pitch, and we understand and fully support his decision to pursue this opportunity for him and his family," technical director Ernest Faber said.
"While we'll miss his leadership and experience, his departure also creates space for new players to step in and make their mark.
"We're working diligently behind the scenes on our recruitment strategy to strengthen the squad ahead of what is a long pre-season."
